COVID-19: How did Southeast Asia Respond?

Our two data visualisations below provide a year-long perspective of how Southeast Asian countries and governments responded to COVID-19, which was officially declared a pandemic on Mar 11, 2020. The region, though, reported its first confirmed case in January that year.

The first data visualisation (COVID-19 Stringency Index) shows the range of stringency of measures that the 11 countries in the region took, with blue indicating lower stringency – including restrictions. on public activity, and red showing the tightest levels they reached over the past year.

The second data visualisation (COVID-19 Government Response) gives us a look at the specific measures, from school closures to income support, that went into the Southeast Asian countries’ stringency index in the first dataset.
